While driving north out of Santa Fe, it started raining over the mountains. I probably took 20 pictures trying to capture the colors, but none of them did it. This painting is my attempt, from memory. Painted in the streets of Crested Butte, Colorado.

When I was 12 I read the book Life by the Numbers that talked about fractals in nature, and it was intoxicating to me. It taught me that patterns can be observed, noted, and used to make predictions in the natural world. Patterns reveal order in what seems like chaos.
