As my boyfriend and I were driving out to Black Mesa, Oklahoma, in July of 2020, we just about crossed paths with an angry thunderstorm--while hauling our new 23-foot Jayco camper. So we said, "Nope, not driving through that," and pulled off the road to let it pass in front of us.

When I was 12 I read the book Life by the Numbers that talked about fractals in nature, and it was intoxicating to me. It taught me that patterns can be observed, noted, and used to make predictions in the natural world. Patterns reveal order in what seems like chaos. This gave a great deal of comfort to my young anxiety- and depression-riddled mind, and it still brings me comfort today. I paint and draw to reveal to the viewer the patterns I find.
